500 independent truckers sign up with Teamsters

Daily prounion rallies are being organized at the port’s entrance as part of the Teamsters effort to organize some 1,700 independent truckers in the area. I have worked in many different companies and doing various jobs through the years, but never union until the one I have now. When I was in sheet metal/ HVAC the guys hated the others in the union and I was always told horror stories about the union. However, I went to school after that and was soon there after in the field working in it. As a result, I came to learn that the worker has very little rights and power to do anything to protect them. In the end, I was not paid my last weeks pay and never was able to get my 401k either, because I decided to stand up for certain "rights" of mine that were violated daily for years. In closing, the job I went to and am still with now is union, Teamsters. TRUST ME, it is the ONLY way to go and the ONLY hope for a fair hand shake in the work place in these days and times. The union keeps the company honest! When one side has all the power you WILL see abuse in power...! Thank you all for changing my life, Go Union!

Most states have a law like " At will Employee". This law originated from Europe, but was called something else there. Anyhow, hundred of years ago, the workers ended up having more says then the owners through the course of time. As a result, the owners all came together and made this law to give them a way to let go any worker. Again, anyone with all the power will abuse that power. However, here in the USA, these business owners, who pay lobbyists to create laws for them, all came together and created this law,"AT WILL EMPLOYEE" This law exists in all but two states. You can be fired for no reason at all now and as long as they do not violate certain "rights" it is legal. For example, descrimination, but they can say they do not like you because your ugly and your fired. Sure mean, but LEGAL! They also have their lawyers as business partners where they get paid even when not needed.
I once believed in the system, but after working very close to the top of a company and with government projects I no longer do at all. What I heard about unions was DEAD wrong!
