Teamsters may take 10% pay cut

About 40,000 of YRC Worldwide Inc.’s drivers and dock workers will have their wages cut 10 percent under a tentative deal reached with the Teamsters union.

Local union leaders reviewed and approved the proposal at a meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz., Wednesday in an effort to boost YRC’s worsening financial condition.

The proposal will be mailed union members on Dec. 9 and ballots will be counted by Dec. 30, said Bret Caldwell, a Teamsters spokesman.

Caldwell said the proposal includes an “equal sacrifice” provision to slash the wages and benefits of YRC’s nonunion and management employees by 10 percent as well.

Caldwell said the union’s portion of the cutback would just be on wages and not affect benefits.

YRC has union workers at four subsidiaries covered by the agreement: Yellow Transportation, Roadway, USF Holland and New Penn. Several hundred YRC employees in the area work at terminals operated by Yellow, Roadway and Holland.

garbage! this was a giveback contract that was supposed to let us compete with the non-unions and now we are asked to give even more.YRC mismanagement of operations and chinese investment weakened the company, not the wages or pension fund spin they are trying to put out. I am voting NO on this.

Again, we the members see our union give in to corporate greed without any guarantees of job safety and without getting something in return. just like in our current NMFA contract where the union & WYRC acted as one to unfairly cram the contract down our throats. Tyson Johnson, you should be ashamed of yourself. I know I am ashamed of you. Do you think Hoffa's reputation as a corporate lawyer is showing it's ugly head? Who does he represent? WYRC perhaps? I for one will vote NO Lodgekeeper

HEARS THE MATH BROTHERS AND SISTERS GROSS 1000 A WEEK. 900 FOR YOU, 100 FOR YRC. X 52 WEEKS = 5200 A YEAR FOR YRC. X 40,000 UNION MEMBERS = 208,000,000. THATS RIGHT 208 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR FROM UNION GIVE BACKS. WHERE IS ALL THIS MONEY GOING TO. BOHICA. BEND OVER HERE IT COMES AGAIN FRATERNALLY YOURS S.L.D.

I need to see all the details! We got the company spin today and, given the current employment outlook, $20 an hour is better than $0. I worry that this over $200 million that is proposed to be given back will simply disappear into Zollar's and friends' pockets and the company may fail anyway. Are the International and Local Union Officers taking a cut as well? Usually, their pay is based upon the NMFA wage! The way this thing looks to be structured, there will be no cut in Union dues, just our take home pay. Why not a federal bailout? This is the largest trucking company in the US! Why not wait for some relief from the incoming administration and Congress which the Teamsters endorsed and so vigorously supported and which pledged to support our cause and needs. Isn't it interesting that all the rich folks are seeking concessions from the workers while they (the rich) still have a sympathetic ear in Washington. Pathetic that it has come to this. I wish Zollars had never been born.

Once again the union lets us down as well as the upper management at YRC. Ten percent to the upper manangement what a joke. Stupid moves with equipment and directions of freight is what is hurting YRC. Put CDO back on what they were on at least they made smart moves not like these crack heads do now. What looks good on paper doesnt always work people, THINK before you react that way it doesnt always cost jobs and hardships on family and the industry. Upper management got us into this mess they should be giving more than the rest of us. What about the board of directors what is their intake on this 10 percent what a JOKE. We all want to work but do we have to work for nothing in the end cause it sure seems like thats what it is.

YRC and Hoffa have shot us in the foot. Customers now think we are on the ropes and will back off. The company has created "hate and discontent" in the employee ranks. Not that there is any danger of Hoffa organizing any trucking companies, we will be laughed at when attemping to organize any one other than "public sector", which is all the teamsters seem to be able to organize now. This is a deal made long ago, probably during contract negotiations. It stinks! Vote No, YRC is not going to close the doors, they are just picking low hanging fruit!

take a look at the facts and maybe you see what's really going on Hoffa and his crew had this deal made before his election that's why they rammed our new contract down our throats blaming ups frieght for all of the new language, who told any of these companies to merge in the first place . This ordeal has completely changed the way our company has done business and we have always been profitable. Zollars should buy some more companies that he can't manage maybe he should just hire Hoffa and Johnson to work for them! Sent Johnson a letter a month and one half ago about Yellow underbidding New Penn customers and still have not gotten a reply read between the lines. Maybe Congress should investigate this matter!

yrc said the last contract was to keep up with the non-union cos. now they need more. what is stopping the non-unions from cutting their pay and we have to give back some more? zollars and his cronies are snakes. hoffa and his cronies are snakes. the union stands to lose a lot of money if yrc goes down. what are they going to do for us. they always say that its the other guys fault(bad ecomy.non-unions ect.)its not my fault that their GREED!!! has put the world in such bad shape. i did my job. i did what i was told to do. why should give? what guarantees do i get? why does this have to be done asap? why not see what a new president has to say, he supports the card check prog. or is that all b------t to? let them all squirm a little bit. see what happens. i'am not in a hurry. besides somebody has to haul the freight. VOTE NO to everything and everybody. drastic times call for drastic measures. and spin holland off. don't put us out of business like every thing Else yellow touches and turned to s---.

Hey one of our office ladies had said it came across yesterday to them that.If the 10% deal went through that their cut would be 10% for first year, then to 5% on second year, and on third year back to regular pay for them. She said it came across the computer.Didn't want to give copy, afraid of getting in trouble. Can anyone else verify or have you heard this also. It was suppose to have came across 12/5 in the in the afternoon.

Since YRC's problem seems to be there inability to borrow money why are we asked to give back 10% Why are not making this a loan instead hell we can forgo the interest We loan the 10% for the 4 years asked then in the following 4 years we receive our money back. 15 % of there stock is worthless if the company fails as it is common stock. Even if it does rise there is no way we will get any where near the amount we have given back under the 10% concession plan.It figures out to about 225 shares per employee so do the math at even a $10 per share increase you receive $2250 a far cry from the many thousands you stand to loose in 10% concession plan. Make it a loan and at least we have a chance if the company turns it around to get repayment on the loan.

The office personnel was right - this is how it shakes out for the non-unionized side. Ten percent cut this year January-June, an additional five percent in June. No COLA anytime in the near future; a ten percent ownership stake in the company. I have no desire to continue to work for these people and have posted my resume everywhere. I can put freight on anyone's trucks, they don't have to say Roadway on the side. I gave them huge growth numbers, they cut my actual wages 10%? At least I'm not stuck here like some of my peers with 20+ years in. They have little choice but to ride it out.

Well I see you put one of mine through. I guess I must have stepped on to many toes the first time. Talking about Zollars and Johnson.Didn't figure it would go through anyway. It pointed out to many flaws in the proposal of how we would get it stuck to us.To many people would have voted no after reading it anyway. Thanks

lest we forget,P.I.E, TransCon, Smith,St.Johnsberry,Delta/McClean just to name a few.
Jones, who Yellow acquired used there tangible assets then locked the gates put a lot of Brothers & Sisters out of work. And the list goes on, If it gets turned down at least you go out with all your money! Now here we go again. A NO vote will work, call there bluff.

How can you trust this company?? As soon as the paycut comes through, they will announce closings and lay offs as well. If the paycut does not come through, they will do the same; only using that as an excuse when they announce their closings. Non union members are NOT getting the same cut. Also at this local office, it is heard they get a 10% cut the first year, then 5%, then back after 2 years. If the company is run by the same people who made this mess, nothing will change. Why are we not hearing about Zollars and his friends not taking bonuses (which should only be given if there is a profit anyway!!)? Why are we not hearing they take pay cuts?? Cause they have no intention of doing so.
Doesn't anyone here have a relative on CNN or something so this can get out on the news? Would be a great story about yet another greedy CEO.

The letter to the non-union employees from their Town Hall Meeting. The changes for non-union employees are
A reduction in gross wages of 10% January-June,and 5% from July-December
Merit increases delayed until the third quarter
Suspension of the 401(k)matching contribution January-June, with a 3% matchfor July-December
A new ownership in the company for non-union employees that increase in value as our stock price recovers
Our board of directors' compensation is also being reduced How much will that be I wonder. Looks like we are being lied to again

Can anyone tell me why New Penn is voting separate from the other companies on the 10% paycut??

I am an accountant, the wife of a union employee. I agree that this is a bluff. Looked up the financial statements - WYRC does not seem to be in financial trouble. Sure they have a billion in debt but they have 4 billion in assets. They made 94 million in the first 3 quarters ending in September. Sees like a relatively healthy company. Vote NO. Our economy does not need this!!!!!

Personally I do not care about if this compnay makes it anymore. I worked in the office...I took my cut in pay. Then they let me go along with tons of others. From what I have seen I do not think YRC will make it. There is alot of waste in this company. I do not know how some of you can even call this union yours. I think they are selling you out. I have talked to people who are still there and I find it hard to believe that the union leaves messages on the member's voice mail to vote for this! I think you are just prolonging the compnay for another couple months at the most! I am sick of big corporations making the employees take the cuts when they could have done cost saving cuts a long time ago. They should not have been sponsoring the baseball events for the years they did and many other frills that they had.

I would strike if I was in the union and go with the 1/3 option the government will give you as far as your pension. But YRC knows they have you where they want you and they know everyone will vote for this. Sometimes you have to stand up for what is right!
